Post-installation Instructions

This section explains how to install CurrencyXchanger on a client/server environment.

What is installed on your hardrive?

After the installation is complete, two new folders are created on drive C:\ in 'ClearViewSystems' folder:

  • 4D (which contains the database engine (server, client, runtime) and
  • CurrencyXchanger

Locate 4D Client and 4D Server (if you are running on a network)

**Skip this step if you are running on standalone mode.

  • Open the '4D' folder by double clicking on it.  
  • Locate the '4D Client' and '4D Server' folders inside the '4D' folder.
    Note you will also see  '4D Runtime Interpreted' here which is used for standalone installations.

  • Once you open the '4D Server' folder, you should be able to see the application 4D Server.
  • Right click on '4D Server' and select 'Send To' and then 'Desktop (create shortcut)'.

  • Once you open '4D Client' folder, you should be able to see the application 4D Client.
  • Right click on '4D Client' application and select 'Send To' and then 'Desktop (create shortcut)'.

Change properties of CurrencyXchanger

  • Now open the 'CurrencyXchanger' folder by double clicking on it.
  • Right click on 'CurrencyXchanger.4DB' (note you may not see the extension .4DB) and select 'Properties'.

Change Default Application

The first time you install the program, Windows wouldn't know how to open 'CurrencyXchanger' thus you must set '4D' as the application 'CurrencyXchanger' will run on.

  • After clicking properties, if you see '4D' (or '4th Dimension') next to 'Opens with', then there is know need to make any changes.
    Simply hit 'Okay'.
  • If you do NOT see '4D' next to 'Opens with', click 'Change', then click 'Browse' in the new window and find '4D'.
    Select '4D' then click 'Okay'.
    Hit 'Okay' again in the 'CurrencyXchanger Properties' window.

  • Click 'Browse'.

  • Locate the '4D Runtime Interpreted' folder by navigating to the root directory of drive C:\  and looking for the '4D_Programs' folder.
  • Double click on the '4D_Programs' folder then double click on the '4D Runtime Interpreted' folder within.
  • Select the '4DRuntimeInterpreted' application and click 'Open'.

  • Navigate to C:\CurrencyXchanger and create a desktop shortcut of CurrencyXchanger.
  • Right click on the 'CurrencyXchanger.4DB' icon.
  • Select 'Send to' then click on 'Desktop (create shortcut)'.

You should now see a newly added icon titled '(Shortcut to) CurrencyXchanger' on your desktop.

  • Double click on this icon and run the program for the first time.
    **Note: The first time you setup CurrencyXchanger, you should run it in standalone mode (even if you would like to run it in client/server mode in the future).

Creating Data Files

The first time you run CurrencyXchanger the program will ask you to locate data files.

  • Click 'Create'.

  • Click 'New'.
  • Be sure to save the new data file inside the 'DataFiles' folder.
  • Name your file next to 'File name'.
    *Note you should pick a name for the datafile that corresponds to your company name (ie; ABCCurrencyData).
  • Under 'Save as type' select the file type 'Data File (*.4dd)'.
  • Hit 'Save'.

Enter your company name, country and currency code

Once you created the Data Files, the system will prompt you to enter your company name.  

  • Enter the name of your company in the 'Company Name' field.
  • Click 'Save' or hit <Enter>

  • Enter the country where your company is located in the 'What Country' field.
  • Click 'Save'.
  • Enter the three letter standard ISO code for your local currency (ie; USD for US Dollars, CAD for Canadian Dollars, GBP for Great Britain Pound, AUD for Australian Dollars) in the 'What is the base currency' field.
  • Click 'Save'.

VERY IMPORTANT STEP

In the next step, the system will prompt you to the pop up window 'Browse For Folder'.

  • Navigate and find 'CurrencyXchanger' folder under the C:\ drive (C:\CurrencyXchanger)
VERY IMPORTANT STEP
  • Once you have located the 'CurrencyXchanger' folder in the C:\ drive specifically under (C:\CurrencyXchanger), select the folder by clicking on it.
  • Click <OK>.

This step will load all flags into the system. If you don't do this step properly the flags won't be showing up in the system.

Login Panel

You will now be prompted to the 'User Authentication' login panel.

  • Select 'Administrator' next to 'User Name'.
  • Enter the password 'admin' in the 'Password' field.
    *note the password is case-sensitive.
  • Click 'Login'.
